Circa 1900 Art Nouveau Scenic Enameled Silver Compact
This is a very beautiful example of the exquisite artistry representative of the Art Nouveau Era. This lovely compact has a detailed hand enameled neoclassical mythological scene of a man in the clouds driving a horse drawn chariot. The chariot is surrounded by women in flowing gowns with a winged cherub above lighting the way with a torch. The entire scene is bordered by an ornate engraved silver design that is accented with lapis inlay. The silver back is very ornate with heavily engraved garlands with a floral motif. The inside is stamped 800 for European silver and retains the original mirror and rouge or powder pad. The clasp closes clean and crisp. The compact has a scalloped design and measures 3 1/2 inches at the widest section by 2 3/4 inches deep and is in excellent original condition. This compact is absolutely beautiful and is a fine example of an elegant bygone era.
